PERIPHERAL ARTERY DISEASE (PAD)

Understanding and Prognosticating Patency and Target Vessel Revascularization

The conversation with the patient and referring provider regarding the decision and method to revascularize is complex. Device trials, perhaps the best source of information on short- and long-term patency are difficult to compare to one another due to trial-design and study population differences. Nevertheless, the provider can estimate patency of lesions treated with certain devices. It should be noted that more challenging lesion subsets have been included in some trials and registries, although admittedly in small number. Nevertheless, the interventionalist is often still able to approximate durability in such lesions.
