Home-Based Walking Exercise

Home-based walking exercise offers a more convenient but less dependable option. The patient is instructed to exercise in a home or exercise facility for 3-5 times per week. Sessions begin at 10-15 minutes in duration but gradually increase to approximately 50 minutes per session. Home-based exercise allows for walking to either near-maximal/maximal leg pain, as with SET, or a more self-selected pace. The features of home-based exercise are summarized in Figure 1.
